Couch 2 5K Week 1

So this week I started the C25K program from http://www.coolrunning.com/. There are several different websites offering a free C25K program, but this one looked more gradual so that I felt that it would be one that I could be successful in completing. I had decided on this one, but sent my friend Sweetpea a text asking her which program she used....well, great minds must think alike, because she used this program too! She also sent me some links to get some podcasts to listen to while running. Let's just say our taste in music is WAYYYYYYY different, but to be quite honest, the hip-hop/rap mix really kept me going. And as I admitted to her, I actually recognized a few of the tunes, so there!!! The podcasts are great because I was worried about the time intervals, but they prompt you on when to run and when to walk, so it worked out great.

Monday, January 3 was my first day back to work after the Christmas break, but we didn't have kids, just a workday. So when I finished with all my meetings, and the two presentations I had to do, I changed into my workout gear and headed out to our little track at school. It is just a little gravel track around the P.E. field, and I have no idea how far it is, but for the first workout, it was fine. The weather was in the low 40's, but once I got going, I really didn't think it was too bad. The wogging, (my new term for walking/jogging) went well, I only got a small stitch in my side on the 6th interval, which went away during the next walking interval. I have no idea how far I ran, I am going to have to find out how far it is around that track if I run there again.

Wednesday, the temperature after work was in the low 20's, and we got home way after dark, so I decided to use the treadmill. Again, the wogging wasn't to bad, and I kinda like the treadmill because I can see the stats. (I am a math teacher, so numbers are kinda important to me). I covered 1.82 miles during this workout...not a 5k, but not to shabby for a non-runner.

Friday, again it was cold...again we got home late, so I ran on the treadmill again. This time I covered 1.91 miles. I like to vary the speeds of the walks and run, no reason really, but I just like to change things up a bit. The running was easier..I was able to turn up the speed on the walking sections, and again, it wasn't too bad. Looking forward to seeing what week 2 holds on Monday.

Until next time........
