Last week I went back to the podiatrist for a follow up, and he cleared me to start running again. So instead of moving forward after a 3 week hiatus, I decided to repeat week 4 and to move forward from there. So Monday after work, Janet and I came home, changed into running gear and headed out to a local park to get our workout in. It was a bit on the chilly side, but once we go going we didn't notice the chill. We repeated this Wednesday and Saturday mornings. I was very pleased with how the run/walk went. Week 4 calls for two 3 minute runs, and two 5 minute runs, both followed by a brisk walk recovery period.
I got a little winded on the 5 minute runs, I think that is from the 3 weeks of inactivity, but over all, the workouts were great. The foot had a few minor twinges from time to time, but the new ankle support really seems to do the trick. None of the extreme pains from a month ago. Now Janet on the other hand is on week 7, which means a 25 minute run each day. I am so proud of her, she gets her pace set, and off she goes. I just can't imagine that in 2 week I will be ready for that. I guess we will have to wait and see. I will be glad when time changes so we have little more time to run. There are no lights at the park, so with our schedule, we are pushed for time to get our run in before dark. Monday and Wednesday we covered a little over 2 1/2 miles, but Saturday we got our 5K mileage in. It took us about 50 minutes, much faster than our hiking pace, but we have to work on cutting the time down before our first 5K.
I had planned on taking advantage of the beautiful weather we had this weekend by hiking, but we were both obsessed with pizza, so we decided to drive up to the NOC to splurge a little bit. We ate greek pizza at the NOC, which tasted better than anything I had ever eaten in my life. Not exactly on the diet plan, but we deserve a treat don't we? On the way back we stopped at Harrah's in Cherokee to play a few dollars on the slots. No big wins, but our money lasted a while so we were good with that. But man, that place was crowded. I have never seen that many people there in all the times I have been. I love the new additions to the casino, it seems like the casino floor has doubled in space and they have quite a selection of games to chose from. After a couple of hours, we headed back, stopping for a salad at Chic-Fil-a in Clayton on the way home.
Next weekend, I will hike!!!
Until next time....

Glad your back to running. Give Janet a huge high five for me. That's awesome she's on the 25 mins. runs!
